Volume: initial data
In a rectangular, constant-depth pool, volume is length × width × water depth. Appropriate average depth is used on sloping base; Irregular forms, steps and overflow volumes are also evaluated. Geometric estimation does not replace the net water volume in the application project.
Circulation flow rate
The initial relationship is Q = V / T. Q is the flow rate (m³/h), V is the water volume (m³), T is the selected rotation time (hours). For example, if 48 m³ and the default 4 hours are taken just to explain the calculation, 12 m³/h is obtained. 4 hours here is not a universal design rule; usage should be determined based on user load and applicable project conditions.
filter surface
The relationship A = Q / vf is used for the filter. A is the filter area (m²), vf is the selected filtration speed (m/h). The speed to be adopted depends on the filter type, water quality target and manufacturer conditions. Passing the same flow rate over a smaller surface changes performance and pressure loss. The need for backwashing should also be checked.
From pump label to installation
The highest flow rate of the pump in the catalog is not the flow rate that can be obtained in the field. Pipes, valves, filters and other equipment resist flow. The intersection of the pump curve and the system curve determines the operating point. The selection should consider operating conditions, such as filter clean and dirty states.
Pipe and water distribution
At the same flow rate, smaller inner diameter results in higher water velocity. Route, connections and equipment losses are calculated together. The pipe diameter is not chosen solely based on the connection size of the pump. Feeding and suction placement should support balanced circulation within the pool.
What is verified in the field?
Target flow rate, filter pressures, valve positions, air suction, flow distribution and operating conditions of auxiliary equipment are checked. Commissioning data creates an initial record for future maintenance. The number obtained from the volume calculation alone does not determine the pump model to be purchased.
